Specialties
Play therapy for children ages 5 to 12.
Children may not always communicate how they feel through words; often it’s through their behaviour. You may be noticing your child is struggling and feel worried, without knowing how to help.
You don’t need a diagnosis
You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to bring your child to therapy. Wanting them to have support is enough of a reason.
Play is how children think
Children rarely have the words for what is happening inside them. Asked directly how they feel, most will say fine, or shrug, or change the subject. Play is how children think, and it is how they work things through.
In play therapy, your child has:
My aim is to help a child build a healthy inner world, one they will carry with them long after therapy ends.
A space of their own
A child-centred space where feelings can be shared through art, play and storytelling, and a relationship where your child feels valued and understood.
Hi, I’m Dhespina!
I’m a relational, somatic and trauma-informed therapist trained in Gestalt, Internal Family Systems and Hakomi. With children, I follow their lead, meeting them through play, art and storytelling rather than asking them to explain themselves.
I stay in warm, regular contact with you as their parent, so the work in the room connects to life at home.
Working alongside you
Parents are crucial to the play therapy process, so I offer a free parent consultation (30–45 minutes) rather than a 15-minute intro call.
After the initial parent consultation, we have routine 30-minute phone check-ins, typically after every fifth session.
In these consultations, we speak about what you’re noticing your child may need support with, what’s changing, and how to support your child at home. This allows you, the parent, to stay connected to the therapeutic process without compromising the child’s private therapeutic space.
My fee is $200 on a sliding scale down to $120. I also hold 2 low-fee slots at $60 for people facing financial difficulty from unemployment or being a student. If cost is a barrier, please ask.
To book your first child therapy consultation, please reach out through the contact form, or email me at [email protected].
